This newly constructed home ticks off all the boxes for its artistic owner, whose checklist reflected her unique and practical ideas about space. After Der at Lovett Deconstruction recycled the old home on the property, we built all the exterior walls with advanced framing techniques to increase the home’s “R-Value”. This insulation strategy dovetailed with the client’s love of deep nooks and wider window sills.
The funhouse mirror that greets visitors is not the only unusual feature built into this home. Rather than a roomy main bedroom, the client opted for a loft-like sleeping porch, and requested custom murphy bunk beds on the main floor for guests. The graceful, custom-made eaves and “witches cap” brackets allow this home to blend in with its older neighbors, yet still give hints of its originality.
